Hiking in the San Bernardino Mountains is fantastic in the Spring. This year we decided on a hike up the Sugarloaf Mountain Trail. Click on this link for a map and photos; Big Bear Hiking.

We covered around five miles up and back in three hours. The trail is entirely uphill, but moderate. There is a seasonal stream running through the trail for the first mile of the walk. If you hike to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain (we didn't have the time to go to the top), there are brillant panoramic views of Mount San Gorgonio, Big Bear Lake, Mount Baldy and Lucerne Valley.

The weather can get hot and the altitude reaches 9400 feet. Be prepared with plenty of water. If you are not used to the altitudes, bring B vitamins, it will help you to breathe better.
